Kizomba

Latin dance styles

The dance's basic steps are soft and easy to perform, making it accessible to beginners. Becoming familiar with Kizomba music and its subtle nuances is crucial to developing a strong connection with the rhythm and melody.

Kizomba, a dance and music genre that originated in Angola in the 1980s, is a captivating blend of sensuality, rhythm, and connection. The term “Kizomba” translates to “party” in Kimbundu, a Bantu language spoken by the Ambundu in Angola. This dance form has gained popularity across the globe, with enthusiasts in major Chinese cities, Europe, and the USA.

Kizomba is often described as pure sensuality and even eroticism. The dance is characterized by slow, melodious rhythm, attractive cadence reminiscent of African music, and sensual hip movements. The torso of the dancers is in contact for much of the dance, creating an intimate connection between the partners.

The dance is grounded, with each step pushed into the ground, creating a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The dance’s charm lies in its slow, romantic, and sensual nature, which enhances the connection between the partners.

There is no unique style in Kizomba. Along with the “Passada”, Kizomba’s most basic dance, there are others such as Tarraxinha, Quadrinha, and Ventoinha. The Urban Kizz or urban kizomba has also gained popularity recently.

Kizomba Fusion is another style that takes the connection, weight transfer, and movement of Kizomba and adds elements from another dance. Dances often fused with Kizomba to create Kiz Fusion include Hip Hop, Semba, Bachata, Tango, and Salsa.
